October First Shores was founded in 2018 by two editors and a coastal architect who'd watched coastal-lifestyle media collapse into aspirational scrolling and influencer-led aspiration content. We built a calmer alternative: editorial work by people actually living shore-adjacent lives, design references from practitioners, and a deliberately small contributor network that values depth over coverage.
How we publish
Every editorial piece is written or commissioned by editors and contributors actually living the lives they're writing about. Our coastal architect contributors run working practices. Our food contributors cook the food they write about. Our outdoor contributors practice the activities they cover. We're not interested in aspirational scrolling content; we're interested in considered, lived material.
How we earn trust
No sponsored content. No paid placements. No affiliate stacks. Member subscriptions and bundle purchases fund the entire editorial operation, which means our coverage stays accountable to readers rather than advertisers.
